CHIQUI BOM BOM INTERVIEW
The idea for the name “Chiqui Bom Bom” has a playful origin. It comes from a phrase used between David and his partner where “Chiqui bom bom” was a fun way to describe themselves as their relationship was growing. This became the name of their store.”
The David moved to Vilcabamba after working as a yoga, and meditation teacher in several studios. They saw an opportunity here to offer products that are good for the soul and the conscious customer. Initially, they offered products from distributors they knew, such as supplements, self-care products, and items from an Italian distributor.
Vilcabamba was chosen as the location for the store because the founder felt a strong connection to the area upon arriving. He desired to be part of a community instead of living in an isolated location in Quito.
The founder is Ecuadorian, born in Quito, and learned English at the American Foundation School, Colegio Americano de Quito.
When asked about future plans, the founder envisions a more peaceful and stable world, with this project consolidating as a cultural nucleus in Vilcabamba. They hope to expand the offerings, potentially including a bigger venue for beverages, food, poetry circles, and workshops.
Chiqui Bom Bom offers a wide range of products across various departments, such as self-care, home, delicatessen, outdoors, kids, and books. Some notable items include sunscreen, dental care products, kitchenware, beautiful crafts, dishes, pans, Japanese handcrafted knives, stone mortars, immersion blenders, salts, condiments, oils, wines, alternative sugars, honeys, syrups, marmalades, thermos, tents, flashlights, cotton cloths, Ecuadorian author books, and more. They also focus on providing products with fewer microplastics and heavy metals and offer alternative beers and sodas.
